Thoughts, Costs, and Considerations on New Puppies

Everybody loves a puppy. When you see a puppy, isn’t the temptation to take it home strong? This is especially true for children because they only see the here and now; they don’t think about what’s going to come next. However, there are adults who also fall into this category; they see the dog and they “fall in love” and that’s it. They are bringing home a new puppy.

Just say “NO” to that little voice tugging at your heart to bring that puppy home, or at least say “WAIT.”

Getting a puppy should be considered just as carefully as adding a member to your family. Without careful consideration, you will find several unpleasant surprises, such as these:

1. New Puppy Training: Training a puppy doesn’t have to be difficult, it depends on the breed. However, it is work. It takes time and patience. Accidents will happen, so be prepared.

2. New Puppy Care: Puppies as children spend some time with doctors. There are shots, physicals and tests. In addition, there will also be preventative items such as a heartworm preventative and flea and tick treatments.

3. Food: they also have to eat. Table food is not the best option and good quality food can be expensive, especially depending on how big the puppy grows.

4. Freedom: Puppies and dogs can aspire to a lot of freedom. Depending on your dog, you may find that you don’t sleep on the weekends. Then there is the family getaway, are you thinking of bringing your furry friend? Otherwise, special arrangements will need to be made, and these can cost you a few bucks.

5. Get some exercise: Letting your dog run around the yard is not enough. Is the yard fenced? If not, running in the garden is probably not an option. Not only is it physically important to walk your dog, but it’s also important for his mental health.

6. Sickness: Just like people, dogs get sick too. Some people hardly ever have to take their dog to the vet, but others are not so lucky. Visits, tests, and medications cost money and can be expensive.

Puppies are wonderful. A new puppy in your house can be a wonderful addition. It is documented how a dog can improve health and contribute to a longer life. That said, bringing a new puppy into your home and family is a serious decision that requires planning, thought, and consideration.
