Lego superheroes, what I think

Lego superheroes: what does it mean to me?

This article will attempt to explain the appeal of the Lego Superheroes range. First, what do I mean? I’m assuming a bit of knowledge, or you wouldn’t be reading this, but I’d like to let you know where I come from to explain why I feel that way regarding this range.

Superheroes come to Lego

Lego super heroes is the brand for products launched in 2012, in a partnership between Lego and Marvel comics and the DC Universe. For those who don’t enjoy comics, these two are the giants, at least in western comics. Lego is a trusted brand that was recently voted the most trusted toy maker by UK Channel 4.

Why does this work?

When you take the energy, imagination and action of the comic book universe and combine it with the ability to create Lego IE, you have what I believe is a winning combination. You also have the fact that most parents, who now buy this for their kids, grew up playing with Lego – you couldn’t get a more reliable product than that.

Do the minifigures stay true to the original idea?

In a word, yes, but with a twist. You really won’t need to see this if you’ve played Lego Batman: The Video Game, you looked at some of the rumors on YouTube at this point, but I’ll assume for a second that you haven’t. The minifigures have the feel of a comic book, come with facial expressions (often interchangeable), weapons, accessories and headdresses. They can inflict incredible violence on each other and explode like the real ones – this is exactly what kids have been doing for years with Lego, building it and then fighting.

So what comic book characters can I get?

So far we have not fully finished the product launch. 9 DC Universe, in the brilliantly titled: Lego DC, are available. Perhaps the best known of these is the Batman range; you can get Batman in his Batmobile or Batwing, in a fight for Gotham City. You can even get the Batcave and of course the Joker and Two-Face are there to fight every turn. They have opted for the threat of what I consider to be the classic dark comic book batman as opposed to the less troublesome family batman of television fame. Also in this range are Wonderwoman and Superman.

What about Marvel?

In the Marvel range are, of course, The Avengers, X-Men and Spider man themes, with the well-known The Hulk, Wolverine, Loki and The Iron Man as the most prominent characters. Again, they come with all the cool stuff like fighter jets, motorcycles, helicopter gunships, etc. to recreate tea battle scenes

I am interested in this, what else do I need to know?

You can get the figures individually and even custom, I’m sure there will be a collector’s market for years to come. They are also definitely toys and suitable for children from 5 years old, of course they will enjoy them even more if they know the characters from the comics or play the video game. However, I bet that in today’s world some of our future generation of comic book fans may find their way through Lego.

What to look for

The Avengers range has just been released and as the movie is almost the most popular in the world right now, I think they will be great. Later this year there is a new version of the Lego Batman game, if you don’t want to wait to buy it, you can play it online right now.
