Chelsea Ruthless Against Arsenal FC

Chelsea FC once again demonstrated their superiority over Arsenal FC over the weekend; thanks to the doublet of his talisman, Didier Drogba. The match was billed as a grudge match by the Arsenal fans who lost 0-3 at home to us in the first round of the season.

Arsenal provoked us last season by beating us 2-1 in the first half of the season at Stamford Bridge thanks to 2 great goals from Fabregas. Since then, they have lost 3 games in a row against us: they lost 1-4 at the Emirates Stadium in the second half of last season, 0-3 again in the first half of this season and yesterday they lost 0-2. We beat them home and away this season.

The match had started on a good note for them, with the boys attacking seriously and showing some flair. They had revenge in the back of their minds to prove to the world that their loss to us in the first half was by mistake. But before minute 10 of the first half the pendulum of victory was already swinging in our direction; Didier Drogba had scored the opening goal, putting the Arsenal players under intense pressure. The first half ended with 1 goal for us, but the second half saw more fireworks from the away team.

Our goalkeeper Petr Cech showed that he also had a bone to break; he cordoned off the post making it virtually impossible for Arsene Wenger’s boys to score. The more they tried to equalize, the more the match surpassed them. And before anyone could say Jack Robinson, Didier Drogba had added a second goal for Chelsea, sealing victory for us. Arsenal were lucky their free kick hit the crossbar for what would have been a hat-trick for Drogba. The free kick was taken professionally and of course Arsenal’s goal was stuck in the ground as they watched the ball return after hitting the crossbar.

With his performance over the weekend, Drogba has shown that we miss him while he was out on a national assignment during the Nations Cup tournament in Angola. Wayne Rooney gave him a place in the scoring list due to his absence from the league, but he has announced his comeback by scoring in his last 2 games. He can catch up again and possibly overtake Rooney for the top scorer award. Chelsea are really making great progress when it comes to this year’s top league title chase; and now that they are playing more compact football, I think they can win the league again and prevent Manchester United from winning the title for the fourth time in a row.
