A visit to Nandankanan Zoo

Zoo cum Nandankanan Botanical Garden covers an area of ​​400 hectares. The zoo emerged in 1960. The place is part of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums since 2009. The Garden of Heaven is very close to the capital city of Orissa, Bhubaneswar.

Nandankanan Park is near Kanjia Lake. Since the arrival of the animals in the park, the lake has also become a popular tourist spot. Both places offer a great recreational experience.

The first tiger arrived at the site from Calcutta in 1964. African lions, cougars and mugger crocodiles arrived along with the tiger. Visitors to the site enjoy seeing many species of mammals, birds, and reptiles around the site. The forest is famous for being a breeding ground for white tigers. Many endangered species of Nilgiri langur, mouse deer, Sangal lion-tailed macaque and Indian crocodiles can be seen at the site. The zoo has a beautiful collection of freshwater fish in its wonderful Aquaria.

In addition to its Aquaria, the park is famous for its Reptile Park, where one meets lizards, snakes, crocodiles, and turtles.

Orchid House at the zoo has a beautiful variety of orchids to view and enjoy.

Zoo is open to visitors from 7.30am to 5.30pm from April to September. From October to March the visiting hours are from eight in the morning to five in the afternoon. Due to regular maintenance work, the place is closed to visitors on Mondays.

An Indian adult must pay a nominal fee of 20 rupees as the entrance fee. Foreign visitors must pay Rs.100/. People with physical disabilities have free admission to the place.

One can stay in a tourist hut in Nandankanan by paying Rs.300/. A stay in the place is pleasant for people who love photography. Photography is allowed for different fees for still cameras, digital still cameras, video cameras, and film cameras.

There are many things one can do while in the park. Lion Safari, White Tiger Safari, Rope Way, Toy Train, Paddle Boating and Family Boating can be enjoyed on site.

You can travel to Nandankanan by bus, taxi or auto-rickshaw from Bhubaneshwar. Vultures are also available for the park from Bhubaneshwar airport.

Nandankanan Zoological Park commemorates World Environment Day on June 5, 2018 by organizing and promoting the Day through a series of engaging activities and events that generate high public interest and participation.
